About
THE COMPANY
Amantes is a physical theater company directed by Tesa Avino composed of eight dancers/co-creators. The company creates poetic universes where absurdity, logic, and fantasy are in constant dialogue. With the concept of paradise at the core of its artistic practice, Amantes works by challenging what is possible and finding individual and collective freedom in expanding the imagination.
“What Teresa conveys is sincere, authentic.”
— Jacques de Leeuw Award Jury Report.
[AGENDA]
[WORK]
"Amantes aim is to inspire the audience and to connect with the inner human desire"
[PERFORMANCE]
Reírnos del Sol
Three dancing creatures face the end of the day—sunset. Faced with this inevitable end, they embark on an emotional journey, ultimately choosing to find joy as a way to ease their pain. In this way, they seek to become immortal—at least temporarily.
"Paradise [...] Is a land with its own relationship with time, space, and meaning."
[RESEARCH]
Amantes has multidisciplinary interests. The company learns from the strategies of the literary resources of poetry, the spatiality and characters of painting, and the use of sound and silence in music to understand and apply compositional tools. Through these strategies, Amantes explores research questions such as: Who are we when we are someone else? What steps should we take to achieve the impossible? and how can we make our dance immortal?
"Amantes aim is to [...] use imagination to empower individuals, and finally to gather to dream together."
[SOCIAL WORK]
At Amantes, we are truly committed to society. We see paradise as a practice that stimulates our imagination and empowers us. Since not everyone has access to the theater, we propose creating other types of activities to have a real impact in places where dance can be a catalyst for change. For Amantes, beauty and fantasy are a form of resistance. That is why we offered this one-month workshop at the Colonia San Vicente Ferrer supervised center. In this workshop, a group of 20 participants develops social and emotional skills through dance and games. Through dance and movement, participants improve their relationship with their bodies, their self-esteem, and their relationships within the group, and enjoy a time when they can find an escape through fun and play.
"...la dansa es fa amb el cos però no té cos, no té matèria, és lleu, fràgil, es desfà com l'aire, com el fum, com el temps, per això demana dels seus amants, dels seus gestors, del seus vividors, que respecten els seus valors, que li entenguen l'ànima."
